Senior Rust Engineer

Senior Rust Engineer to build a production-grade S3 gateway over Vitastor and FoundationDB for a large Russian IT company. Salary 700,000–800,000 RUB net/month, full-time remote.

Project: Large Russian IT company building its own data center and distributed S3 storage over an SDS cluster (Vitastor, RDMA, erasure coding) and FoundationDB for metadata. The team needs to develop a production-grade S3 gateway: S3 protocol, object packing into volumes, GC/compaction, zero data loss guarantees. Responsibilities: - Design S3 gateway architecture over Vitastor and FoundationDB from scratch - Implement S3 protocol, object packing, GC and compaction - Ensure zero data loss and fault tolerance - Build test infrastructure: simulation testing, fuzzing, chaos tests - Set up production monitoring and operational practices - In the future, form and lead a small team around the direction

Requirements: - Systems Rust: tokio/async, unsafe FFI to C libraries (bindgen, callback-heavy API, eventfd/AsyncFd bridges), design via trait-seams and dyn-dispatch, multi-crate workspaces - Experience with transactional distributed KV stores (FoundationDB / TiKV / Spanner-class): OCC and conflict ranges, snapshot reads, idempotency under commit_unknown_result, key schema design (hot-shard avoidance, value size limits, chunking) - Understanding storage internals: erasure coding (full-stripe write vs read-modify-write), durability semantics fsync/write cache, append-only layout and size-class allocation, lease/CAS coordination, tombstone-GC, checksums (location-keyed BLAKE3) - Testing as engineering discipline: deterministic simulation testing, proptest, fuzzing (libFuzzer), mutation testing, failpoints, chaos/soak testing - Production operations: Prometheus metrics, alerts and runbooks, graceful drain, TLS/mTLS (rustls), SOC2 audit log, p99/tail latency - S3 protocol knowledge at ceph/s3-tests level: versioning, multipart, conditional requests, ACL/policy/Object Lock edge cases - Experience with Vitastor / Ceph / SeaweedFS internals, RDMA - Experience with TLA+ / Stateright, familiarity with FDB-style simulators - Benchmarking (hsbench/fio) and critical evaluation of data (including distrust of raw boto3 numbers) Candidate profile: - Independently designed product architecture, was at the origins of a system (not just individual tasks) - Continues to write code - Able to take a direction from idea to MVP and production independently - Deep experience in infrastructure/storage products
