Sparrowhawk Games is seeking a versatile part-time engineer to help build a light-hearted, single-player indie Metroidvania. Led by a UK industry veteran with 20 years of experience, we are spending the next six months expanding an existing early prototype into a robust proof-of-concept focused on joyous, feel-good mechanics. Responsibilities: Work across gameplay, AI, UI, and internal dev tools to prototype and iterate on core features. Collaborate closely with the Game Director to translate concepts into fluid, intuitive mechanics. Write clean, maintainable C++ code designed for fast-paced iteration. Help scope gameplay elements and advise on technical architecture and efficient implementation.
3+ years of professional experience using C++ within Unreal Engine. At least 1 released title. Strong problem-solving, debugging skills, and a great intuitive feel for gameplay mechanics.
Remote work. Genuine Flexibility: A laid-back work environment with heaps of freedom around working hours and an open, collaborative team structure. No-Nonsense Direction: Scope-conscious planning, with a detailed concept in place, focused on eliminating wasted work and unnecessary overhead. Inclusive Culture: Part time only to enable those with ailments or other commitments to balance their working lives.
