Staff Machine Learning Engineer

Senior Machine Learning Engineer for Phantom, remote, responsible for ML systems for Growth and Engagement, including recommendation engines and experimentation frameworks.

Define long-term technical roadmap for Growth and Engagement ML systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and business impact. Architect and deploy production-grade ML pipelines and real-time decisioning systems for personalization, notification dispatch, and onboarding. Evaluate and integrate cutting-edge ML techniques: multi-armed bandits, reinforcement learning, LLMs for content generation, graph neural networks. Design, train, and validate models for user lifecycle stages: propensity to churn, LTV forecasting, next-best-action, lookalike modeling. Build and optimize recommendation engines and semantic search systems. Establish robust experimentation frameworks (A/B testing, causal inference, multi-variate testing). Partner with Product and Growth teams to translate business hypotheses into ML problems. Mentor and coach senior engineers across data and ML organizations. Advocate for ML engineering best practices.

8+ years experience in ML engineering, data science, or software engineering, with 3+ years in Staff, Principal, or Tech Lead capacity. Proven track record in growth, marketing tech, recommendation engines, or consumer engagement. Large-scale data processing and distributed computing experience. Expert-level in Python, Scala, or Java. Frameworks: PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, XGBoost. Data & MLOps: Spark, Flink, Kafka, Snowflake/BigQuery, Ray, Kubeflow, MLflow, SageMaker. Deep understanding of causal inference, uplift modeling, and statistical testing. Ability to connect algorithmic improvements to growth metrics (MAU/DAU, conversion, retention). Exceptional communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
