SENIOR / LEAD GAMEPLAY ENGINEER (LEGION STUDIOS)

Senior/Lead Gameplay Engineer at Legion Studios for Covenant, a dark fantasy first-person melee/shooter RPG. Full-time/Contract, Remote. Focus on core gameplay systems and technical direction.

Legion Studios is working on its debut title Covenant, a dark fantasy first-person melee/shooter RPG featuring both multiplayer and single-player experiences. The team is focused on delivering immersive worlds, strong gameplay systems, and compelling narratives. This role offers the opportunity to significantly impact core gameplay systems and technical direction while working with a passionate and driven team. Responsibilities • Develop and maintain advanced gameplay systems in Unreal Engine • Implement and extend character movement systems including custom movement modes • Work with networking systems including replication and client-predictive movement • Collaborate closely with design, art, and engineering teams • Prototype and iterate on gameplay features • Optimize performance and maintain system stability • Write clean, maintainable, and scalable C++ code • Contribute to cross-platform and online systems development • Build core systems for combat, RPG mechanics, and backend infrastructure • For Lead: manage and mentor engineering team • For Lead: oversee console porting and technical pipelines • For Lead: implement and maintain development infrastructure and CI/CD systems

Strong experience with Unreal Engine and gameplay programming Deep knowledge of Character Movement Component and networking Experience with custom movement systems like sliding or grappling Expertise in C++ and systems programming concepts Understanding of memory management, multithreading, and data structures Strong knowledge of Unreal replication and online subsystems Experience with performance profiling and optimization tools Solid understanding of 3D math and linear algebra Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly Experience with Perforce workflows Self-driven and capable of working independently Nice to Have • Experience with console development • Knowledge of rendering pipelines • Familiarity with animation systems and Unreal art pipeline • Experience with rollback netcode for online games • Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, TeamCity, or Horde • Experience with anti-cheat systems • Familiarity with Unreal tools such as UAT, UBT, and Gauntlet
