Backend Engineer (Java/GCP)

Backend Engineer (Java/GCP) in Belgrade to modernize a core in-store application for the world's largest home improvement retailer, building cloud-native microservices on GCP.

Design and build robust backend microservices using Java. Improve system resiliency, performance, and monitoring across cloud-native environments. Set up observability dashboards and telemetry using GCP native services, Grafana, and Looker. Integrate enterprise data solutions across Cloud Spanner, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and Elastic. Collaborate closely in a paired associate-anchor model, actively using AI coding tools (Claude / GitHub Copilot) to accelerate refactoring, testing, and feature delivery.

Proven hands-on experience in enterprise environments using Java and Spring Boot / MVC / WebFlux. Proven hands-on experience architecting and deploying services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Practical, hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude or GitHub Copilot) for production refactoring, testing, and debugging. Strong background in system resiliency, monitoring, and observability within cloud ecosystems. Hands-on experience with containerization and CI/CD tools (Docker, GitHub Actions, or Cloud Foundry).
